Retired people have time to do things like sit in the grass and remove any fungi they see.
While sitting there, I looked around and everything looked so pretty. The fall color is past its peak, but still a sight that makes me glad to be alive. I went inside and grabbed my camera, sat back down on the grass and took a few pictures.
We do a complete clean up of everything in the fall and that includes four weeks of blowing/raking leaves. By the middle of November, I'm tired and feel ready to sell the house, move into an apartment and do my gardening at our son and dil's house. Come spring, I'm thankful we didn't move into that apartment.

Our Porch Swing
I like your part about sitting in the grass removing fungi :) I just notice a whole bunch of tiny ones in our grass. I'm hoping my daughter hasn't knocked them over before I get a chance to take their picture. Fall cleanup is a lot of work! I start thinking about how easy grass and a couple of shrubs would be, but then like you once spring comes I'm excited to see it all again.
ReplyDeleteIt's still looking so pretty there, but it does look like lots of leaves to rake after they fall.
Sigh.... those fall colors are so glorious! You're a lot more industrious than me, I don't do a lot of fall clean-up. I love the scarecrow.
ReplyDeleteHold that thought about spring...you would so miss your garden. And if if if you do decide to move than please to a home with an itsypitsy tiny garden. You are so wonderful in a surrounding like this.
ReplyDeleteThanks for showing these magnificent colors of fall. Still haven't got once second left to take my camera and capture the warm glow of fall....sigh....So yours is what keeps my heart warm my dear friend.
Lots of hugs.
ps if you need any help raking just give me a call and I'll hop over to help you out here (if only..)
I feel the same way each November...and then each spring I am glad to have a garden. I can't leave all the fallen leaves on the garden...it would be smothered with 6 feet of leaves! Your views are gorgeous...and what a treat to have a porch seat to finally sit down and relax! gail
ReplyDeleteWhat gorgeous photos. Love all that color. Those trees are amazing.
ReplyDeleteSometimes I too think about moving to town in a nice little apartment. So much easier. Then I go outside and work in the garden and I know it will not happen until I'm incapacitated. We are just starting to get some fall color nearby. Your pictures are wonderful.
ReplyDeleteDonna,
ReplyDeleteI hear you, loud and clear. I am actually glad it is snowing today. I need a break!!!
I like your scarecrow, but maybe it should be called a cutecrow, he is not scary at all. :0
My Dad has a huge yard to maintain and he can hardly do it all himself. He now hires college kids to do some weeding in the summer.
May you have a wonderful time pulling out fungi, and enjoying your beautiful fall weather.
Rosey
I hope you revisit your beautiful pictures during the growing season to inspire that fall cleanup. Your fall pictures are wonderful. Love the porch swing.
ReplyDeleteBe careful where you sit to remove the fun guys. You might sit in a fairy circle and be enchanted and transported -- oh, that might be fun, too.
ReplyDeleteThe fungi give me the weebie jeebies....I could never understand how people can actually eat them...and like them!
ReplyDeleteBut you're right, you would so miss your garden that you love so much come spring if it wasn't there!
Your scarecrow doesn't look like he has been doing his share of the yard work. He looks way to happy I think he just a swingin. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteHi Donna,
ReplyDeleteI have been looking forward to either retiring in 8 years, or reducing the number of hours I work each day. You have given me something to look forward to, digging out mushrooms. LOL It sounds like you had a nice, relaxing day outdoors. Your fall colors look awesome to me. I like your porch swing.
Thanks for your nice comment on my veggie garden update. My knee and ankle are much better, but not totally healed, so I do need to be careful not to overdo it.
I love all of the pics, but the bench is my favorite. I like the scale of things from the ground up.
ReplyDeleteLOL, Donna, I have the same feelings every year:) I may complain about winter, but I think it's a good thing I live in the Midwest, too; it gives me a chance to rest up for the next gardening season! Lovely photos; I have been admiring our fall color as well--the leaves have just turned here in the past week. Ah, yes, we retired people have the time to "stop and smell the roses." I seem to be very busy these days, but it's a "busy" I enjoy and one of my own choosing. I hope you have a good weekend!
ReplyDeleteLovely pictures. I completely understand your feeling regarding fall clean up. I actually do look forward to the clean look of my decks when I finally get all the pots removed. Still need to finish my clean up. Fortunately, I have a guy that comes and takes care of my leaves.
ReplyDeleteDonna, your fall color is just gorgeous! Here in south Central Texas, our fall color doesn't show up until January, LOL. I appreciate your stopping by my corner of Katy and thought I'd return the favor. I'm so glad I did!
ReplyDeleteHow lovely to sit on that porch swing and enjoy the autumn colours (and resist the temptation to go and pull up more mushrooms!)
ReplyDeleteAutumn is fading fast, so sitting down to photograph it and enjoy it can prolong the beauty.
ReplyDeleteWell, you must be in full leaf removal mode by now. Here in Coatesville, the leaves are falling almost like snowflakes...and covering the grass thicker than ever. I will probably get a chance to really read your blog because I will home recuperating from surgery for the next 4 weeks. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteFall is the most beautiful time of the year. I always fall in love with the colors. You took some great pictures. Have fun with the leaf raking. Mine might be over since we got snow yesterday........
ReplyDeleteHmm, those mushrooms look good enough to eat! Fall looks so beautiful there. I guess I better take a few snaps of our so-called fall, before it disappears as well! Sorry about your 4 week sentence.
