Less Is More

Sometimes less is more, like apple trees without the leaves. I think they look amazing. The bright red apples have the appearance of ornaments hanging in the trees. They brighten up the brown landscape and I can just imagine how pretty it would look if snow covered the orchard. All that fruit will provide food for wildlife. Blacks bears, red squirrels, deer, turkeys, fox, fishers, porcupines, bobcat and coyotes are all known to eat apples.

Star Orchard is located in Hollandtown, just blocks from P & N's house. The orchard can be seen out their windows and provides a scenic view all year long.

Wish I could muster up this much enthusiasm. Maybe I'll ask P & N for permission to jump on their couch and experience what it feels like to jump up to the ceiling.

Phillip has a blog now. If you're interested in what a second grader blogs about, you can go here to take a look. Having trouble getting this link to work. Hope I'm not driving you crazy with the edits.

  2. Love the apple photo, Donna, and I'm with you, less is more, my sister's favorite saying watching me decorate for Christmas :) She died suddenly this past summer and is surely missed in many ways. Wishing you and your family a Happy Thanksgiving! (I corrected the blip on the recipe ... 3/4 cup of brown sugar is right)

  4. I love how the apple trees look too. Ours is looking a little like that, only the squirrels are removing the apples one by one.

  6. The photo of the apples on the bare trees is so neat. Not having apple trees around here, I didn't know that there would still be apples decorating the trees after the leaves had fallen. It is nice to learn something new.

  12. Hi Donna,
Are there always that many apples left on the trees after the leaves fall? That seems like a lot to me.

Yes, we had a great Thanksgiving. It was interesting to see that my senior in high school nephew who has autism and our grandson weren't sure what to think of each other, and were kind of jealous of each other. Nephew and I roughhouse sometimes, and Grandson cried when he came in and saw Nephew throwing a leg over me. Maybe he thought he was going to hurt me.

I hope your Thanksgiving was a good one, too. Great shot of Phillip in the air! I'll have to check out his blog.

  14. Hello Donna,
What a charming photo of Philip! I hope you save this picture for future generations.
It is not the kind that could be embarrassing like those bathtub shots that we cringe at.

  15. Look at all those apples! I have just a few left on my tree, all with little bird bites taken out of them:)

Enjoyed reading Phillip's blog; you're a wonderful grandma to help him with this. But then grandchildren are so special we grandmas would do about anything for them, wouldn't we?

  16. I guess we have to learn to appreciate the beauty of the empty trees if we are going to get through the long, cold winter with our sanity intact!

  25. Hello Donna,

Thank you so much for the wonderful comments you dropped by. I really appreciated it.

What a lovely apple orchard! I wish we could visit again the apple orchard close to where we live and pick some apples there. And Oh, I really like that shot of Phillip jumping . You captured it wonderfully. I did one time capturing my daughter's jump mid air but it didn't turn out good.

    Have a nice day always.
